Workshop
'Understanding Colour
and Using It Effectively'
 with Reece Scannell

Sunday 17 May 2009

Purpose of the Workshop

Reece wanted us to work freely with colour and come to terms with ...

  - Colour as a language

  - Selecting colour with a purpose

  - Creating a theme

  - Principles of light

  - Conscious and subconscious

  - Shaping and moulding

  - Transforming classic to contemporary

He started off with black and white photographs, explaining how shadow, highlight and detail make the picture.
And and then colour sets the mood

The group split into pairs and proceeded to play with Reece's fabric. We made a colour wheel. We discussed complementary (harmony) and opposite (contrast) colours.

The fun began when we had to select warm and cool shades of one colour, e.g. green. We got to see how each individual’s perception influences colour choices.

Each pair had to choose about 8 colours to interpret a picture

Response from the Workshop

What a wonderful and inspiring workshop!

I think I would like to rise to the challenge, and play with Reece's fabrics to create the Australian style he was talking about.

I've so many ideas bouncing around in my head, it's not funny. And tonight while driving to Berwick I was taking it all in, the colours, the shadows and highlights of the city scape, the trees along the sides of the roads and even the advertising signs!

Now I want all of his fabrics, so I can sit here and play.
It's all so yummy and I'm dreaming big!
