2008 CHALLENGE

The design should represent the theme of “Water”. The quilt may be any shape that meets the curve and measurement requirements set out below.

The shape of the quilt must include at least three curves and the design within the quilt top must incorporate at least three pieced and/or appliquéd curves. (A circle will be considered to be one curve and an S shape will be considered as two curves.)

The horizontal measurement must be at least 50 cm and no more than 80 cm, and so must the vertical measurement.

At least 80% of the challenge fabric must be used prominently on the front. Any number of your own fabrics may be included, but purchased kits containing fabric are not acceptable.

Any textile techniques and/or embellishments may be used in construction and quilting. Couched or stitched thread or yarn, if used, will not be counted as appliquéd curves.

The quilt should consist of three or more layers and not be framed. On the back it must have a 10cm deep hanging sleeve and a label showing the quilt’s title and your name. Other details on the label are acceptable.

Challenge quilts are to be delivered to the October meeting for members to view and vote and will be retained for judging until the November meeting.

'My quilt reflects a spiral of water as it disappears into one of the various outlets in our home. It is based on the Maori koru which represents the opening fern frond, 'bringing new beginnings and hope for the future,' a philosophy which could well be used in our search for better ways to conserve water'

Congratulations, Betty!
